Position summary

The Plumbing Foreman leads Scout Mechanical’s plumbing installation on commercial and industrial construction projects. This is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for planning daily work, directing the crew, maintaining safe and code-compliant installations, and keeping the project manager informed of progress, constraints, and changes. The foreman represents Scout professionally with the general contractor, other trades, and inspectors.

Key responsibilities

Plan and lead field work

•  Review current drawings, specifications, submittals, schedules, and scope before work begins. Identify conflicts or missing information and raise them early with the project manager.
•  Lay out and supervise assigned plumbing work, including underground and aboveground sanitary, waste and vent, storm drainage, domestic water, gas piping, fixtures, and equipment as required by the project.
•  Set daily priorities and short-term work plans; assign tasks to plumbers and helpers; coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, access, deliveries, and material needs.
•  Track installed work and labor productivity against the plan. Communicate schedule risks and recovery needs promptly rather than waiting for a milestone to slip.

Lead safety and the crew

•  Lead the crew in Scout’s safety practices. Review the job hazard analysis before work begins, address changing hazards, use required PPE, and stop work when conditions are unsafe.
•  Conduct and document weekly toolbox talks and required pretask discussions. Coordinate controls for excavation, lifting, hot work, fall exposure, and lockout/tagout when those hazards apply.
•  Coach apprentices and installers on safe work methods, quality, productivity, and professional jobsite conduct. Hold the crew accountable while treating people with respect.

Coordinate and communicate

•  Coordinate plumbing work with the GC, site superintendent, other Scout trades, subcontractors, and inspectors to resolve access, sequence, and trade conflicts.
•  Give the Plumbing Superintendent timely field updates, including progress, manpower, material shortages, design questions, inspection status, and needed decisions.
•  Document differing conditions, potential extra work, and time-and-material work accurately; notify the Plumbing Superintendent before proceeding outside the approved scope when practical.  Redline drawings as changes occur for the Project Manager.

Deliver quality and close out

•  Check installation against approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and Scout workmanship expectations. Correct deficiencies before they become rework.
•  Plan required tests and inspections, maintain test records and field documentation, update as-built information, and complete punch-list items for turnover.
•  Protect finished work, materials, and equipment; maintain an orderly work area and leave the site ready for the next trade and inspection.

Qualifications

•  At least five years of plumbing foreman or superintendent experience on construction projects, with strong commercial or industrial plumbing installation experience.
•  Ability to read construction drawings and specifications, plan crew work, solve field issues, and communicate clearly with project teams and inspectors.
•  Working knowledge of applicable plumbing, fuel gas, and local requirements; ability to coordinate testing and inspections for assigned work.
•  OSHA 10 preferred. Journeyman or master plumber credential is a plus, where applicable.

How success is measured

Safe work; a prepared and productive crew; installations that pass inspection and limit rework; reliable progress and documentation; timely communication of field issues; and constructive working relationships with the GC, customer, and other trades. The foreman is expected to model Scout’s core values: Do the right thing, Greater Good, Whatever it Takes, Humbly Confident, and Be Likeable.

Benefits

Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses; medical, dental, and vision benefits; 401(k) with company match; company vehicle and fuel card; paid time off and holidays; and opportunities for advancement, subject to applicable company plans and policies.
