JOB PURPOSE: This position oversees convenience store locations in Cheboygan and surrounding northern areas, including the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This position is responsible for ensuring effective management and profitability of stores in the assigned district. The District Manager will be responsible for directing and overseeing all area store personnel to achieve District and BCOC performance objectives. This role is key for the overall profitability and productivity of multiple retail stores and oversees many aspects of their day-to-day operations as well as creating a work environment that supports and promotes employee engagement through coaching and demonstrating Company values. The District Manager directly supervises individual Store Managers and requires a continuous visible presence within their assigned stores.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required. Candidates with progress toward a relevant bachelor’s degree combined with progressively responsible management experience may be given consideration.
  • 2. Five years of progressively responsible management experience in a retail environment is necessary.
  • 3. Strong leadership skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • 4. Excellent analytical skills are necessary.
  • 5. Familiarity with compliance standards in the industry is required. (Sale of alcohol, tobacco, fuel, environmental compliance).
  • 6. Computer literacy and store operational and financial data systems are necessary.
  • 7. Good presentation skills.
  • 8. The ability to interpret a wide variety of operating, financial and Human Resources reports to identify store issues and opportunities for improvement is required.
  • 9. Well-developed skills in managing a large workforce are necessary.
  • 10. The ability to travel between store locations is essential. Must maintain a current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
  • 11. Certification as a Class C Operator of Underground Storage Tanks needs to be obtained.

  • 20. Must be capable of developing and sharing strategic vision. Consider customer, employee, and competitor trends in decision making. Activities, decisions and planning should always align with BCOC culture and image.
  • 21. Must be self-directed and motivated. Manages time efficiently by identifying value added activities and eliminating non-value-added activities that take away from the ability to drive results and be productive.
  • 22. Demonstrates a high level of character, honesty and integrity always. Models a professional image in language and behavior.
  • 23. Ability to manage in a fast-paced environment.
MAJOR DUTIES:
  • 1. Financial Management:
    • o Establish financial goals for each store (volume, margin, inventory cost and turns, labor costs, etc.).
    • o Monitor operating reports to ensure targets are met. Coach Store Managers to achieve financial goals.
    • o Present operating results to the leadership team.
  • 2. Store Management:
    • o Conduct regular audits of each store.
    • o Work with Store Managers to improve operations.
    • o Ensure appearance, safety and customer satisfaction standards are maintained
  • 3. Human Resources Management: Mentor Store Managers. Monitor manager and employee performance in each store. Ensure training is completed.
    • o Provide positive and corrective feedback to store managers and employees. Participate in the employee selection process.
    • o Work with Store Managers and Human Resources to manage performance issues as needed.
  • 4. Business Development:
    • o Identify new business opportunities in the assigned region.
    • o Work with leadership team to evaluate new products, services or locations by preparing and presenting analyses and recommendations. #bchpij
